Representative Pam Richardson Announces Re-Election Campaign
Framingham, MA -- State Representative Pam Richardson (D), officially announced her candidacy today for re-election to the 6th Middlesex District seat comprising Framingham precincts 1-7, 9, 13, 14 and 17.
Seeking her second term, Richardson said, "Since my election to the Legislature in 2006, I have enjoyed serving the district, our town and the Commonwealth immensely. I take great satisfaction in being able to represent the residents of Framingham. As a State Representative the opportunities I've had to help people have been very humbling and personally rewarding."
"Massachusetts is entering a very precarious time fiscally, and my proven ability to deliver funds to the district will be even more important going forward," Richardson commented.
Some highlights of Richardson's current term include:
- A $12.9 million earmark in the Life Sciences Bill for infrastructure improvements in the Framingham Technology Park which will allow for corporate expansion, create new jobs, offset the residential property tax burden for residents and not negatively impact local neighborhoods (click here to see her speech on this important project)
- A critical $6.5 million increase in Chapter 70 funding for Framingham's public schools
- A 15% increase in overall state aid for Framingham
- Framingham's first gang violence prevention grant of $100,000 under the Shannon program
- A re-allocation of over $300,000 to study and recommend improvements for Downtown Framingham that will revitalize the area economically and esthetically
- Working to secure additional state funds to compensate Framingham for tax-exempt properties
One of the things Richardson stressed as important for the community and Commonwealth is creating a climate that is favorable for economic development. Richardson stated, "Massachusetts and MetroWest have tremendous economic assets to offer, but we need to streamline the way we do things to make it easier and less expensive for businesses to thrive in the area. The infrastructure monies I secured for the Technology Park are just an example of the type of assistance we need to provide to keep jobs in town and reduce our residential tax burden."
A socially progressive Democrat, Richardson is a former School Committee member and Town Meeting member. She stressed, "Having served in local government I am very committed to providing the best municipal services we can for all of our residents. Strong public schools, quality programs for our seniors, and outstanding public safety services are not optional. We need to work together to make sure that all of our residents have access to what they need without increasing their financial burden."
